1965-09-18 Margaret Lake, 13 miles NNW of Cochrane, Ontario:

Latitude: 49° 16' 30" N, Longitude: 81° 09' 40" W.

The pilot began approaching for a left hand base leg and as he was about to turn on final, selected carburetor heat ON. At this point the engine failed and as it appeared the aircraft could not be landed on the lake, the pilot selected to land in the trees.

The accident occurred when the engine failed in flight and the pilot was unable to reach a suitable landing area before colliding with trees. Engine failed as a result of complete fuel starvation. Inattentive to fuel supply. Inadequate maintenance inspection.

Damage: Substantial. Injuries: Pilot Herbert F. Szech (42) - serious.
