PLANE CARRYING 4 CRACKS UP IN RIVER

2 Men and 2 Women Ending Week-End Party Rescued From Waters Off E. 23d St.

A week-end party of two men and two girls, returning from Watermill, L. I., ended in a violent ducking into the East River yesterday morning.
The seaplane that the four had used to visit the ocean beach resort crashed and sank as it was coming into the New York Skyport at East Twenty-third Street at 9 A. M.
The four, who suffered only minor injuries. were rescued by harbor craft. They were: Hans Schillinger, 31 years old, of 112 East Thirty-sixth Street; Julio Limantour, 39, of 45 East Sixty-eight Street; Miss Irma Hanson, 21, of 578 Fifty-seventh Street, Brooklyn, and Miss Laura Barone, 25, of 51 West Seventy-first Steet.
Mr. Schillinger is the owner and licensed pilot of the plane, a Republic Seabee, four-seat, single-engine craft. Mr. Limantour is an exporter. Both girls are professional models.
Mr. Schillinger said one pontoon of  his plane struck a submerged obstacle and was torn off. The plane nosed over, but did not sink for some time. The four occupants clung to the craft and to life preservers until pulled from the water by the crew of a speedboat from the Skyport and by a fishing boat. All were able to go home after treatment for cuts and bruises, except for Miss Hanson, who remained at Bellevue Hospital to have stitches taken in a leg.
A Sanitation Department tug was towing the wrecked plane to shore, when it sank in twenty feet of water off East Twenty-fifth Street.
